The Best Waxes for Hand-Made Candles: A Guide

The Best Waxes for Hand-Made Candles: A Guide

At Apriori Decor, we hand-make our candles using only the finest ingredients, including a variety of waxes. In this post, we will explore the advantages and disadvantages of soy wax, beeswax, rapeseed wax, and paraffin wax, to help you choose the best wax for your candles.

Soy wax is a popular choice for candle making because it is natural and renewable. It is made from soybeans, which are a sustainable and abundant resource. Soy wax candles burn cleanly and slowly, and they are biodegradable. They are also non-toxic, making them a safe choice for households with pets and children. Plus, they are easy to clean up with just soap and water.

Beeswax is another natural option for candle making. It is derived from the honeycombs of bees and has a natural sweet, honey-like aroma. Beeswax candles are long-lasting and burn cleanly, with little to no soot. They are also hypoallergenic and non-toxic. However, beeswax can be more expensive than other waxes.

Rapeseed wax is another sustainable option for candle making. It is made from the seeds of the rapeseed plant and has a high melting point, making it ideal for making candles with intricate shapes. Rapeseed wax candles burn cleanly and slowly, and they are biodegradable. It is also very popular in Europe as the plant is grown mostly in this region.

Paraffin wax is a traditional choice for candle making. It is derived from petroleum and is affordable and easy to find. Paraffin wax candles burn well and have a long burn time. However, they can produce soot and other pollutants when burned, and they are not biodegradable.

At Apriori Decor, we use a combination of soy or beewax wax and other waxes to create our scented candles. This allows us to take advantage of the benefits of both waxes, while minimizing their disadvantages. Our candles burn cleanly and slowly, and they have a very stable and rich aroma. For sculptural candles we usually use soy or rapseed wax.

When choosing a wax for your candle making, consider the advantages and disadvantages of each type. Soy wax, beeswax, and rapeseed wax are natural, renewable options that burn cleanly and are non-toxic. Paraffin wax is a more traditional choice, but it can produce pollutants when burned. At Apriori Decor, we believe in using only the finest ingredients to create our hand-made candles and decor.
